Barbados’ sun is strong, and protecting your skin is essential. Opt for reef-safe sunscreen — it keeps you safe from burns and protects the ocean ecosystem. Slather it generously before heading out and reapply after every session. We once had a beginner forget sunscreen, and by lunchtime, their back looked like a lobster! Lesson learned: never underestimate the sun.

Let me paint a picture: I had just landed in Barbados, surfboard-less but confident. I figured I’d rent a board, hit the waves, and have an epic surf trip. I mean, how hard could it be?
